English/Parts of Speech/Pronouns/Possessive Pronouns
Possessive pronouns are used to describe who 'owns' something.
1) This is our house
2) This is ours
In the first sentence we use a possessive adjective (our) and a noun (house). In the second sentence we use a possessive pronoun (ours) instead of the adjective and noun. Possessive pronouns are used frequently in English.
The most common possessive pronouns are mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours and theirs.
